Josiah L. Keawemauhili was born in Holualoa, Hawaii, on September 10, 1918.
Soon after he moved to Honolulu from Kona, he shortened his name to “Joe Keawe”, and became a protégé of John Kameaaloha Almeida.

Peter Ahia was born in Palama, O’ahu, on December 6, 1942, and we lost him in Honolulu, at the age of 50, on September 5, 1993.
Peter’s charisma, combined with his fine vocal clarity and strict enunciation of Hawaiian lyrics, made his two recordings outstanding musical treasures.

Myra English was with us from February 22, 1933 to March 29, 2001.
Born in Paia, Maui, she came to Honolulu, and became a star.
Myra performed in clubs like “Club Polynesia” & “The Blue Dolphin Room”, as well on radio shows, like “Hawaii Calls”, and television shows, like “Lucky’s Luau”.

Territorial Airwaves - "New Paradise Serenaders" (7/27/2012)

The “Paradise Serenaders” were first formed in 1953 by Lawaina Mokulehua Gonsalves after receiving the name of the group from her father, Charles Kaholokai Dement.
The group recorded and gained wide fame as “Billy Gonsalves & the Paradise Serenaders”.
Eventually, Lawaina & Billy retired from performing, and formed a group to continue under the name of the “New Paradise Serenaders”.
This group 1st recorded in 1973, made up of the next generation of family.

Territorial Airwaves - "Hawaii Calls - Revisited" (7/20/2012)

“Hawaii Calls” was a radio program that ran from 1935 through 1975 that featured live Hawaiian music.
The first broadcast of the “Hawaii Calls” radio show was on Saturday, July 3, 1935.
Webley Edwards conceived and narrated the program.
Harry Owens, as the first Musical Director, composed a theme song for the radio broadcast that he titled, “Hawaii Calls”.
