Frank Kawelo lived from June 9, 1927 to May 29, 2010.
Catherine Kane Kawelo was with us from April 8, 1920 to January 19, 2003.
The two entertainers both began their careers at young ages.
They met and married in the 1950s, and they performed together constantly.

Territorial Airwaves - "The Hawaiian Aliis" -(06/01/2012)

In 1961, five young guys in Hawaii, right out of high school, were recruited by the US Air Force. Sgt. Edward Keifer, the A&R and PR man for the Air Force Band at Hickam Air Force Base had a dream. Rudy Aquino, Benny Chong, Joe Mundo, Manny Lagodlagod, and Al Akana were offered the opportunity to enlist, and form a band to promote Hawaii, the new 50th State. After 2 years of touring America honing their chops as the Hawaiian Aliis, the 5 returned to Hawaii, only to be recruited by Don Ho to be his new back up band, The Aliis. They would go on to make Hawaii musical history.

Territorial Airwaves - "George Kainapau - Hawaii's Falsetto King" - (5/18/2012)

George Kainapau was Hawaii’s Falsetto King.
In 1957, he was performing at the Ale Ale Kai Room in the then Kaiser Hawaiian Village Hotel.
His Island Serenaders group consisted of Sonny Kamahele, Kaipo Miller, and Jules Ah See.
One evening, J Douglas Allen & his young bride, Toni, persuaded George to let them tape record his show by attaching their microphone to the one stage center mic the group used.
Cord International has just released a CD of this recording restored 55 years after it was recorded.
