Alvin Elewale Kalanikau Isaacs was born on September 9, 1904, in Kamakela, Honolulu, O’ahu, T. H., and we lost Alvin Kaleolani Isaacs on May 19, 1984.
Alvin Isaacs was an incredibly talented musician who has left us a legacy of Hawaiian and hapa haole compositions.
A member of several musical groups, he recorded extensively with each of them.

Instead of focusing on the traditional subjects of Hawaiian mele: Hawaii’s people and place names, underscored through the natural elements of the wind, the rain, the sea, and the land, these writers instead turned their attention to buildings, tunnels, edifices, and ships.

Al Kealoha Perry
Al Kealoha Perry, John “Squeeze” Kamana, Andy Bright, Simeon Bright, Frank “Mystery” Cockett, and David Kelii, went from playing in a little Moilili family sandwich shop, “The Willows”, to performing for millions every Saturday on the “Hawaii Calls” radio show.

Marlene Sai & The Invitations
In the summer of 1965, Marlene Sai and The Invitations came together on Makaha Records.
Marlene Sai – just a few years earlier, as a teenage sensation with the remarkable voice, she had captured the collective hearts of the islands.
Now she had come of age just in time to team up with Hawaii’s premiere smooth jazz and harmony group that had been evolving since 1958.
Two long playing 33 1/3 RPM record albums, “Kiss Me Love” by Buddy Fo & the Invitations, and “Sweet Someone” by Marlene Sai with Buddy Fo & the Invitations, were released almost simultaneously in the summer of 1965.

Splash & Freckles Lyons
Two sons born to Kauai legislator Rosalie Kalino'i would team up to entertain Waikiki in the 1950s.
Frances “Freckles” Lunaki’ai Lyons played the guitar, while Kepo’ikai “Splash” Lyons played the ukulele and steel guitar.
When the two brothers made records, they concealed the fact that their respective trios, “Freckles Lyons & his Beachboys”, and “Splash Lyons & his Hawaiians” were actually the same group.
Splash, naturally heavy, had a beautiful falsetto voice and a distinctive steel guitar sound, while Freckles Lyons, unusually thin, was a superb guitarist and a highly sought after back-up musician.
The talented pair were fixtures in 1950s Waikiki.
