George Kainapau - 1955

George Kainapau was born in Hilo, Hawaii, on May 22, 1905, and he left us at the age of 87, on September 14, 1992.
George’s parents were Hannah (Kahananui) and George Kainapau, Sr.
George, Jr. began singing at the Volcano House in the 1920s, and in 1928 was taken to the mainland U.S. by Sol Ho’opi’i.
George would go on to tour and record extensively, with a host of Hawaiian music stars.
Today, we’ll hear a beautiful Hi-Fi recording George made on the Decca label, while on the mainland in 1955, courtesy of the Territorial Airwaves archives.
