Genoa Keawe - The 49th State Years

Genoa Leilani Kawaihapai Adolpho was born on October 31, 1918.
We lost Genoa Keawe, “Everyone’s Auntie”, on February 25, 2008.
Young Genoa began singing the soprano part in church hymns with her sister Annie.
At 21 years of age, she sang for Band Stand shows.
Eventually, she caught the ear of John Kameaaloha Almeida, and spent the rest of her life as an icon of Hawaiian music.
Today, we’ll celebrate the early recorded legacy of Genoa Keawe on 49th State Records from the Territorial Airwaves archives.
