George Kapulenui Paoa

George Kapulenui Paoa was born on August 17, 1934 in Kalia, Waikiki, Honolulu, and we lost him at the age of 65, on April 24, 2000, at sea on an ocean cruise.
George first sang on KGMB radio’s “Listerine Toothpaste Amateur Hour” and won 2nd place in 1946.
After graduating from Kamehameha Schools in 1952, he joined the Army. Later, George toured Europe with Kui Lee, then played at the Niumalu Hotel Hotel with Johnny Spencer’s band in 1955.
George served in the Honolulu Police Department from 1956 to 1963, before returning to music fulltime.
George, who spent much of his career performing on Maui and Lanai, is a 2013 inductee into the Lifetime Achievement Awards of the Hoku Awards.
